An oasis of peace situated in the centre of Leiden, approximately 10 minutes by bike from the train station. Kaarsenmakersstraat 7-121 was renovated in 1992. It contains modern housing units with communal amenities. The building is built in a U-shaped plan, with a large inner courtyard. At the back it looks out over a small canal and some trees.

The building is owned by DUWO Leiden. It dates from 1827 and was designed by the municipal master builder Salomon van de Pauw. It is a former old people’s home, also called the 'Minnehuis', and used to be owned by the Reformed Church’s social welfare organisation.


Specifications

Rooms
There are 54 single rooms and 2 double rooms with communal amenities. The rooms vary in size and price, but they all have the same kind of furniture. There is a communal room.

No smoking in the rooms
Please bear in mind that all rooms at Kaarsenmakersstraat 7-121 are non-smoking.

Kitchens
The kitchens are shared with a maximum of 10 persons per section. Basic kitchen utensils (pots, pans, cutlery, plates, glasses) will be provided in the kitchen for shared use.

Showers and toilets
The showers and toilets are shared with a maximum of 4 persons per shower/toilet.

Internet, TV and telephone
There is an internet connection available. This service is provided by Ziggo and is included in the rent. The only thing you need to arrange, is a UTP cable. The TV connection is also provided by Lijbrandt Telecom. The use of these facilities is not included in the rent. If you would like to have a telephone line, you can arrange this yourself with the telephone company (at your own cost).

Laundry
There is a laundrette with washing machines and dryers. The use of the washing machines and dryers are not included in the rent. Washing costs 2,50 euro and drying 1,00 euro. For the payment you can use a Dutch debit card or credit card (Visa or Mastercard).

House rules apply to this student house. You will receive a copy upon arrival.

Please bear in mind that these prices will be raised in in July due to a statutory rent increase and recalculation of the service costs.
